Taking a Leap of Faith (December 19)

The situation of childlessness and its attendant problems can cast a shadow of darkness on one’s faith. Manoah and his wife were childless for years (cf. Judges 13:2-7.24-25a). Zechariah and the wife Elizabeth were also childless for years (cf. Luke 1:5-25). But despite the challenge of childlessness, they still walked in God’s commandments. At the appointed time, God visited Manaoh’s wife and promised that they would have a son. She received God’s message with faith and never doubted the promise of the Most High. At the appointed time, God also visited Zechariah with a message of hope that he and his wife Elizabeth would have a son. Zechariah doubted God’s message because of the natural impossibility of having a child in old age. Because he doubted, he was struck dumb.

From the above description, the first point that we must hold onto is that “GOD IS GOD, HE IS NOT MAN”. We can never comprehend him entirely. We can never use our reasoning power to evaluate, weigh and completely understand His actions, thoughts and inactions. He makes promises but He chooses HOW and WHEN to fulfil whatever He has promised.

Sometimes in life’s journey, we may get to a dark spot where the light of reason and logic won't be strong enough for us to see, hear and understand that God is able to lead us on. At those dark moments, we may have to suspend the judgment of reason and logic and cling to faith. At those times, faith will be the strongest light needed for us to wade through the darkness.

At those times, we must be ready and willing to leave ourselves on the hollow of God’s hands as He takes us through the tunnel of darkness. At His own appointed time, He will surely bring us to light. The journey in the tunnel of suffering, poverty and childlessness may be too long but there is ALWAYS an end to it for those who don’t give up. Trust God! Doubt no longer but believe that God is ever in control. He knows what to do about every situation. With the aid of His grace, do your best and leave the rest for Him to complete.

In our moments of doubt, may the dying light of faith in us GROW in intensity and GLOW in radiance, Amen!

May your weekend be restful and faith-filled!
